We have sebaceous glands all over our skin. We have a lot of it, especially on the face, chest, intimate area, and especially on our scalp. The sebaceous glands in the scalp and hair follicles prevent the skin from drying out. In addition, sebum creates an acidic environment in your head. Pathogenic microbes, bacteria and viruses do not have a chance to penetrate the skin. However, the sebum does not stay on the scalp, it spreads over time and causes the head of hair to look oily.

6 tips against oily hair

There are several reasons for greasy hair. In addition to wrong hair care or hair structure, hormonal reasons, medications, unhealthy diet or stress may also be in question. Below, we offer helpful tips to prevent hair from getting greasy quickly.

1. Touch your hair less

It’s easy to brush off those annoying curls from your face or loosen your hair with your hands if you let your hair loose. If we pull from the roots to the strands, we distribute the sebum. The result: our hair looks greasy and limp faster again. To prevent this, you can often braid your hair in a braid.

2. Do not wash your hair every day

One of the most common reasons for a quick greasy approach is daily hair washing, which can strip oils from your hair and lead to a dry scalp. The result: Your sebum production is increased even more. Therefore, try to “retrain” your hair by washing it less often. Over time, your sebum gets used to it and produces less sebum. Tip: If you find it difficult to do without your daily hair wash, you should at least choose a shampoo with mild surfactants.

3. Do not wash hair too hot

Another tip when it comes to washing your hair is water temperature. Do not rinse your hair with very hot water. This dries out your scalp and further stimulates your sebum production. Better: Cleanse hair with warm water.

4. Rinse hair with chamomile tea

Chamomile tea calms not only the stomach and intestines, but also overactive sebaceous glands. Pour the hot tea over your washed hair as a conditioner. Not only do your curls stay fresh longer, but they also get a beautiful, natural glow thanks to the chamomile tea conditioner.

5. Comb the hair properly

Too frequent and incorrect combing can also promote oily roots more quickly. If you brush your hair too often, spread the sebum from the roots to the lengths. Better: Comb your hair from the bottom up. Start at the ends and slowly work your way up. If you just want to bleach your hair or have curly hair, you can use a wide-tooth comb instead. Another explanation for frequent combing favors oily roots: Your sebum production is stimulated by brushing movements. To keep your hair fresh for as long as possible, you only need to comb it in the morning and evening.

6. Wear less headgear

Do you have a problem of getting oily roots faster, especially in winter? Berets, hats and berets may not get enough fresh air to your scalp, causing the sebaceous glands to be overstimulated.
